About

An indoor padel club, and a plan that isn't finished.

El Padel is five indoor courts, a long bar and room to stay after the match, somewhere in London. There is no building yet. This page says exactly how far along that is, because a pre-launch site that won't say is a pre-launch site worth ignoring.

What we're building

Five courts, under a roof, with a room attached that is worth staying in.

That last part is the whole idea. Most padel in Britain is a court and a car park — you play, you sweat, you drive home. In Spain and Argentina, where people have been playing for fifty years, the club is a place you go to, and the hour on court is the reason rather than the whole event. The bar is long, the food is real, and the courts are visible through glass from where you are sitting.

We think London is ready for the second version and has mostly been offered the first.

Why indoors

Because British weather makes outdoor padel a sport you play when you can rather than a habit you keep. A standing Tuesday fixture survives January only if January is irrelevant to it.

Indoor padel is also harder to build, which is precisely why there is so little of it. The rulebook wants at least six metres of clear height over every court — eight for anything new — and a lob is a real shot that a low ceiling quietly deletes. Finding a London building with that height, that floor area and a lease you can live with is the actual problem, and it is the one we are working on.

Where this has actually got to

Straight answers, including the uncomfortable one:

The company exists

El Padel Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 17346510. The register entry is public and is here.

The building does not

No lease is signed and no site is secured. We are looking, and the postcodes people give when they reserve are a genuine input into where — not a marketing field. That is the single biggest thing standing between this page and a club.

There is no opening date

Because there cannot be one before there is a building. Anyone who gives you a date without a lease is guessing, and we would rather say "we don't know" than be the people who guessed.

Everything you see is concept imagery

Labelled as such on every page it appears. It is what we intend to build, not a photograph of somewhere that exists.

Why fifty Founding memberships

Two honest reasons, in order of how much they matter.

Evidence. A room full of people saying a padel club would be nice is worth nothing. Fifty named people who have picked a tier and given a postcode is evidence — about demand, about where, and about what people will actually pay for. It is the difference between an opinion and a case, and it is what makes the rest possible.

A fair deal for going first. Reserving before there is a building means backing something that might not happen. The Founding rate is what that is worth: a price that never rises for as long as your membership runs unbroken. Fifty places, held in the order they are reserved, and there is no fifty-first.

What it is not is a payment. Nothing is charged now and nothing is charged later just to hold a place. If the club never happens you have lost a minute of your evening. The full terms are on the memberships page.

Things we've decided not to do

None of this is virtue. It is that the entire proposition here is "trust us with a postcode before there is a building", and the only currency that buys is not overstating things.

Play with soul

It is on the logo, so it ought to mean something specific. It means the hour on court is not the product. The product is the four of you, the argument about whether that ball was out, and the ninety minutes afterwards that nobody planned for. Build the room badly and you have a sports facility; build it well and you have a club.

Getting in touch

One address, read by us: soul@elpadel.uk. Questions, a building you think we should look at, a company day, or asking us to delete your details — all the same inbox.

There is also a WhatsApp group where this gets talked about as it happens, and Instagram for the slower version.

Memberships

The three tiers, what a session includes, and exactly what a Founding rate locks in.
